In addition to her beautiful rendering of Rabindra Sangeet & other streams of Bangla 'Gaan', her other big strength is the impeccable research that forms the backbone of her engaging & lucid style of presentations, peppered with her own perspectives adding new dimensions for audiences & music lovers.Ī widely travelled artist, Jayati has performed at prestigious platforms both at home and abroad. Though she is trained professionally as an engineer, who currently works at a Senior Management position with one of India's PSU Navratans, Jayati’s real passion has always been music. Gifted with a mellifluous voice, and an ever growing urge to dig deep into the roots of the various streams of Bangla 'Gaan' (Song/Music), under the able guidance of notable Hindustani Classical exponents both in Calcutta & Delhi, Jayati is one of the popular names in the Bangla art & music circle of Delhi. Most importantly, all his life he nurtured liberal ideas in every sphere and wasn't afraid of course correction as the times changed or the need arose. His concern over the oppression of environment by human is being echoed by others after eight decades.

His idea on methods of village reconstruction in Bengal & theory of cooperative banking was made into practice in Patisar and Shilaidaha, where the Tagore family had their estates. His idea of education was revolutionary for those years, which he implemented in his model institute 'Viswa-Bharati '. Yet he wasn't just an "idealistic philosopher," but was a pragmatist who had many firsts in his name. His work is characterised by an elemental force, that's derived from the importance he put on humanity & empathy in society, his love for being one with nature, a philosophical take on religion and a very sharp reformist outlook towards society's ills like caste, gender & economic inequalities. But apart from the 50+ collections of poetry, he wrote & composed music for songs, wrote drama/plays and fiction/non-fiction stories, essays, letters, travelogues and delivered sermons on a wide variety of subjects. His worldwide fame rests chiefly on his poetic brilliance, for which he received the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1913. Any account of his accomplishments, runs the risk of being inadvertently left incomplete.Īs a writer he didn't leave any literary genre unexplored. Yes we are talking about the multifaceted genius,Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore, a polymath who is described “at once as a writer, music composer, teacher, philosopher & humanitarian, nationalist, social reformer, painter, director, choreographer, actor". These beautiful words strung into a poem are by none other than the only poet in the world with the unique distinction of having two of his compositions as the National Anthems of two countries (India & Bangladesh) and who influenced the tune of the Sri Lankan National Anthem as well a man who wrote close to 3000 songs, leading a renaissance in Bengali literature whose impact was seen in the rest of India too who was the first Asian to win a Noble Prize a man widely credited to have given MK Gandhi the sobriquet 'Mahatma'! Here I am, with my song finding it's space here!"
